Autodesk releases Arnold 5.1

Autodesk’s high-end renderer now gives artists more control over image quality and features new tools which provide even more flexibility to keep pipelines running smoothly and efficiently.

Arnold 5.1 features and updates:

Adaptive sampling

Giving users a streamlined way to tune images, adaptive sampling reduces render times without jeopardizing final image quality.

Denoising

Arnold 5.1 features two new denoising solutions that offer flexibility for specific production needs. This enables users to use lower quality sampling settings to optimise their rendering process:

  • OptiX Denoiser: Based on NVIDIA AI technology this denoiser is integrated into Arnold.
  • Arnold Denoiser: A standalone tool, offering the stability needed for final frame denoising.

Toon shader

A new toon shader has been added and is part of a non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) solution. New styles and effects can easily be achieved, and can be combined with other built in shaders.

Alembic procedural

Prefect for Alembic pipelines, a native Alembic procedural gives users maximum control and flexibility, and helps them to eliminate important production bottlenecks.

Profiling API and structured statistics

For users looking to maximize their render throughput, new structured log files and stats provide a powerful set of tools to debug and optimise the rendering process.

Material assignments and overrides

Fully interactive inside of Arnold, new operators enable flexible support for open standard frameworks such as MaterialX and USD. This makes it easier to transfer rich material and look-development content between applications and renderers.
