Samsung will be releasing a 30TB solid state drive capable of holding 12,000 hours of HD video.
The PM1643 is a new serial attached SCSI (SAS) Solid State Drive. This new SSD boasts read speeds of 2100MB/s and write speeds of 1700MB/s - a significant boost compared to previous offerings - and is built from 32 sticks of 1TB NAND flash packages. Each of these sticks contains 16 layers of 512GB V-NAND chips, which offer twice the capacity of Samsung’s previous 16TB drive.
“It’s great to see that Samsung have unveiled the PM1643,” comments Jason Jenner, Commercial Director at Escape Technology. “Studios will be able to reap the benefits of increased capacity and speeds to boost storage performance in their existing workflows.”
