The future of entertainment is in fully immersive experiences, and Unit9 have been one of the pioneers of VR content for sometime now. It’s with great excitement that we encounter their most recent release Storm - an episodic indie game which has been met with hugely positive reviews and sold over 1000 copies in the first weekend.
Made for VR from the ground up, the team have developed an explorative experience where you must battle the elements to survive.
In episode one, you wake up in an intense snowstorm, only to realise you are slowly freezing to death. As you take in the harsh elements around you, it’s a race against time to find a way to get out of the biting cold, find shelter and get warm. If you don’t, you die. And as you move through the game you discover there are additional questions that need answering, such as; who are you? Where are you? How did you get here?
Commenting on the inspiration for this VR experience, the director Anrick Bregman explains that they “were inspired by real, yet extreme situations. Something that is unlikely but you could encounter in real life. And the visual beauty of extreme environments, like a snowstorm. That’s where the idea came from, an aesthetically beautiful but deadly experience where your body is pushed to the extreme.”
Snowstorm, is out now for the HTC Vive, and scheduled to release on Oculus Rift soon.
And don’t forget, this is an episodic game, so we are looking forward to the next instalment - Sandstorm - which is in development and coming to a VR headset near you very soon.
